Circuito Chico
Trip: 65 kms.
Duration: Half-day

Circuito Chico is a scenic route along which you will enjoy both the scenery and the flavours of Patagonia. There are beautiful views all the way, which you can stop to admire at several points and natural lookouts such as Bahía López (López Bay) and Punto Panorámico (Panoramic Point).

A chairlift at Km. 17 carries you up to the top of Mount Campanario with its wonderful bird's-eye view of the area. Several teahouses and restaurants offer delicious meals and snacks to add flavour to the tour. Hotel Llao Llao, San Eduardo Chapel and the harbour called Puerto Pañuelo are special attractions, as well as the traditional Colonia Suiza village.

In addition to the scenery, Circuito Chico has more to offer: you can buy knitted goods, candles and a variety of other handcrafts. You can also take a peaceful walk through the woods along easy footpaths in the Llao Llao Municipal Park.

Cerro Catedral
Trip: 45 kms.
Duration: Half-day

Catedral is the largest Ski Centre in the Southern Hemisphere, offering a wide range of winter sports facilities and fantastic scenery. There are various ski lifts and cable cars, open all year round. Hotels, restaurants and a variety of shops will satisfy the tastes and needs of the large number of skiers and tourists who visit the area each year. In summer, you can take part in different outdoor activities to fully enjoy the natural surroundings on the wooded slopes of Mount Catedral.

Mount Tronador and Alerces cascade
Trip: 225 kms.
Duration: Full day

Drive south out of Bariloche along Route 40, following the shoreline of lakes Gutiérrez and Mascardi. After 35 km., turn off west along an unpaved road towards the bridge over Manso River. Follow the road to the foot of Mount Tronador, across Pampa Linda to the lookout at the Manso River glacier, better known as Ventisquero Negro ( Black glacier)

Los Alerces Cascade is another option on this tour. At Manso River bridge, follow the road skirting Lake Los Moscos all the way to Lake Hess. A few meters further on, the road comes to an end and a footpath leads 300 metres to Los Alerces Cascade.

Circuito Grande (Villa Traful y Villa La Angostura)
Trip: 240 kms.
Duration: Full day

This daylong, 250 Km round trip takes you alongside the Limay river through Rincon Chico, Rincon Grande, Amphitheater, Enchanted Valley, Confluencia, and Cuyin Manzano. After crossing the Rio Minero we arrived at the Traful lookout, 70 mts. above the lake. The road carries on though Villa Traful, the sandy deaches of Puerto Arrayán and the Portezuelo to connect the seven lakes road and return to Villa La Angostura.

San Martín de los Andes (Seven Lakes Route)
Trip: 360 kms.
Duration: Full day

Drive north out of Bariloche along Route 237, following the shoreline of Lake Nahuel Huapi to Villa La Angostura. Then drive on through forests along the "Ruta de los Siete Lagos" (Seven Lakes Route), past Lakes Espejo, Correntoso, Escondido, Villarino, Falkner and Machónico, to Lake Lácar and the town of San Martín de los Andes standing on its shore.

Visit the Chapelco tourist complex, Quila Quina and Catitre beaches, and the Arrayanes drive, affording a beautiful view of the city and lake. Return by driving past Lake Meliquina, through Paso Córdova, following Traful River till it flows into Limay River in Valle Encantado (Enchanted Valley).

Villa La Angostura and Cerro Bayo
Trip: 170 kms.
Duration: Full day or half-day..

Drive along Route 237 till you cross the Limay River as it flows though the steppe. Take the turning to Villa La Angostura, and drive past Brazo Huemul and Bahía Manzano, where ciprés forests gradually give way to moist forest.

In Villa La Angostura, located on the north shore of Lake Nahuel Huapi, visit the port, El Messidor, Selva Triste Pond and La Asunción Chapel. On your way back to Bariloche you may drove up to Mount Bayo, the local ski centre.

El Bolsón and Lake Puelo
Trip: 300 kms.
Duration: Full day

Drive south out of Bariloche along Route 40 for 129 Km. to El Bolsón. The road is paved all the way, following the shoreline of Lakes Gutiérrez, Mascardi and Guillelmo, crossing Villegas and Foyel Rivers and finally, just before reaching the town, Quemquemtreu River. There is a handcraft fair in the town offering a wide range of local products. Farms just outside the town produce berries and jam.

El Bolsón is famous for its homemade cheese and beer. Cabeza de Indio and the Azul River lookout afford one of the most beautiful views in the area. From El Bolsón, you can visit the Lago Puelo National Park and El Maitén station, the starting point for "La Trochita", an ancient narrow-gauge steam engine (also known as the "old Patagonian express"), now a tourist attraction.
